Miami County, IN – Two Elkhart men are facing multiple drug charges following a traffic stop conducted by the Indiana State Police late Saturday night, March 17, 2018.

Indiana State Police Trooper Matthew Moon was patrolling Southbound US Route 31 near County Road 1050 S. at approximately 11:45 p.m. when he saw a black 2005 Saturn Ion traveling southbound in front of his police vehicle. The Ion was traveling at approximately 58 miles per hour. Trooper Moon ran a check of the vehicle registration and the vehicle reported a sole owner named Austin Jay Inbody, who’s Indiana Driver’s licenses showed suspended. The BMV information returned Inbody’s license photo. As Trooper Moon passed the vehicle, the driver appeared to resemble Mr. Inbody according to the Trooper’s Probable Cause Affidavit.

Peru, IN – A traffic stop on March 15, 2018, resulted in a woman’s arrest on a Miami County Warrant along with new charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Paraphernalia and Providing a False Identity Statement.

Peru Police Officer Keith A. Smith was on patrol at approximately 10:59 p.m. on March 15th in Peru when he saw a black Chrysler 300 cross South Broadway Street, heading east from Strawtown Pike to Spring Street. Smith followed the vehicle as it turned north onto Wallace Avenue, proceeding northbound to Canal Street. The vehicle failed to come to a full stop at a stop sign before it made a right turn to travel east on Canal Street. The Chrysler continued on Canal, to the curves where it becomes East Street. The vehicle then stopped at the intersection of East and Main Streets, turning left to travel back west on Main St. At every intersection, the driver of the Chrysler activated the vehicle’s emergency four-way flashers. Officer Smith activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop as the vehicle turned into the Marathon station at 336 E. Main Street.

Miami County, IN – Jason Campbell, 39 of Anderson was arrested by the Miami County Sheriff’s Department on charges of Operating While Intoxicated and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident on Saturday, March 17th.

At approximately 6:52 p.m., Miami County Deputy Tyler Jenkins was dispatched to the area of State Road 18 and County Road 150 E. for the report of a vehicle striking a utility pole. Upon arrival, Deputy Jenkins spoke with a citizen who advised that he was at his residence when he heard a loud crash. Upon looking outside, the man saw a black colored Dodge truck that had apparently struck the utility pole and continued southbound on County Road 150 E. Deputy Jenkins was able to see multiple pieces of debris from the vehicle laying alongside of the roadway near the pole.

Miami County, IN – A South Bend man is facing charges of Operating While Intoxicated with Minors in Vehicle and Neglect of Dependent following a traffic stop in US 31 Sunday afternoon.

Trooper Jonathan Cole was patrolling northbound on US 31 when he observed a red Dodge Charger traveling southbound on 31 near County Road 450 N., Peru. Trooper Cole used radar and found that the Charger was traveling at 83 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone. After turning around, Cole was able to catch up with the Charger and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

Peru, IN - Rick Brown, a Republican Candidate for Miami County Sheriff held his first Meet And Greet with Citizens of Miami County at the Peru Civic Center Saturday.

Brown, who has served in the Indiana State Police for thirty-two years met with supporters and answered questions from citizens about his candidacy. He co-hosted the event with his wife Kim.

Peru, IN – Christian Sands, a Republican candidate for Miami County Prosecutor, held a campaign kickoff Meet and Greet with a food drive last Saturday at the Riverview Event Center on West Canal Street.

Sands, along with his wife, Tawna, who is the current Miami County Clerk of the Courts, hosted the event to formally kick off his campaign for Prosecutor. Sands has fourteen years’ experience with the Prosecutor’s office under three different administrations as both the Chief Deputy and Deputy Prosecutor.

MIAMI COUNTY – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces the installation of new curb ramps on S.R. 18 through the Town of Converse. Work is scheduled to begin on or after Monday, March 12, weather permitting, with

The new curb ramps, set to be constructed at most intersections between Maple and Third streets will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Construction of the new curb ramps may include widening a portion of the sidewalk on S.R. 18; installing the ramps, and lowering the approach to align the ramps with the road.

MIAMI COUNTY – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that traffic changes are planned for the intersection of S.R. 218 and C.R. S 250 E in Miami County. On or after Tuesday, March 13, INDOT’s maintenance professionals plan to remove the STOP signs along S.R. 218 at the intersection of C.R. 250 E.
