Travis Fuqua, 29, of 1600 N. 175 E., Peru was arrested by Peru Police Department on Saturday on an active Miami County warrant and Possession of a Syringe.

According to a Probable Cause Affidavit filed with the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office, Peru Police Officers Charlee Pelzel and David Mitchell were dispatched to the Dairy Queen at 824 N. Broadway Street on November 4, 2017, at approximately 2:39 p.m. in response to the report of a male overdosing in the restroom. While en-route, the Officers were advised the individual was Travis Lee Fuqua and that he had an active Miami County arrest warrant.

Upon arrival at the restaurant, Officers located and arrested Mr. Fuqua. Officer Pelzel noticed that Fuqua’s white shirt was soaked with sweat and he found a syringe with an orange cap laying on the floor next to Fuqua’s hat.

Fuqua was escorted through the dining room passing multiple families. Once outside, the Officers noted that he had extremely bloodshot eyes and that his clothing was disheveled with his hair drenched in sweat. Officers reported that he wasn’t able to sit still and they had to help him stand.

After being read and waving his Miranda Rights, Travis admitted that he had “shot up” with Oxycodone in his foot using the needle that was found at the scene.

Mr. Fuqua was transported to Dukes Memorial Hospital for a medical evaluation. After being cleared by medical staff, Fuqua was transported to the Miami County Jail for the active Miami County Arrest Warrant and a new charge of Possession of a Syringe.

All criminal suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
