A tragedy can change a person’s life forever. It can turn you bitter or make you want to change the world for the better. Many suffer alone in silence but it doesn’t have to be like that.

Thomas Hiles from Peru knows all about tragedy. Seven years ago, his nine-month-old son, Leeland Jules Woods, was severely injured in a domestic violence incident while living with his mother and step-father. The child survived a severe head injury with brain trauma. He lived on life support for six and 1/2 years. On August 10 of this year, Leeland passed away during a scheduled breathing treatment.

Peru, IN – Approximately 200 Miami County residents turned out for a public forum on the Indiana Department of Transportation’s J-Turn plan for US Route 31 intersections in Miami County. The forum, was sponsored by the Miami County Farm Bureau and was held Tuesday evening at the Miami County Fairgrounds.

INDOT has proposed removing the traffic signals at U.S. 31 and State Route 218 as well as U.S. 31 and State Road 18 to make those intersections into  “J-Turn” intersections. There is also a possibility for a J-Turn intersection at US 31 and State Road 16 in Miami County. You can learn more about J-Turns by visiting the INDOT website by clicking HERE. It was reported at the meeting that the time table for converting the intersections to J-Turns is sometime in 2018-2021.
