Dear Editor and Miami County Voters:
My Name is Rick Brown and I am one of the candidates for Miami County Sheriff.
After declaring my intentions to run for Sheriff I have had several media sources ask me for my thoughts and plans regarding community and law enforcement issues. I answered all questions to the best of my ability and it is my hope that the voters were satisfied with my answers.
I feel that it is equally important to understand the person who will ultimately be held accountable for the Sheriff’s Office along with your safety and your law enforcement needs.
I believe if you want to have an understanding of how someone will work in the future, is important to understand his past. I want to take just a few lines and let you know little about myself.
First and foremost, I am a husband and proud father of two daughters. I have 4 grandchildren ranging in age from 1-7 years old. I have been married to my wife Kim (Garver) Brown for 38 years in October. Secondly, I want everyone to know that I come from a military family. My father was a decorated 22 year Navy Veteran and served during WWII, and Korea. I myself served in the US Air Force from 1978–1982 and was stationed at Grissom Air Force Base. I am currently a Sergeant with the Indiana State Police and I am very proud of my 32 years of service. Third and very importantly, I welcome anyone to research my career and my work ethic, check with co-workers, subordinates, or past supervisors. I am confident that all would have very favorable comments. All positions or promotions I have received have been a result of performance evaluations, testing scores, and interviews.
On a more personal note, I like to stay active. I enjoy playing racquetball with a small group of friends at the Miami County YMCA, golfing with friends at Leaning Tree Golf Course and in the summer, I enjoy fishing with my daughter and spending time with friends and family. I also, as strange as it sounds, enjoy working in the yard.
I did not want this to be about politics or policy, but I wanted the voters to have a better understanding of who I am.
I would like to ask for your support in the Primary so that I may have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Miami County as your next Sheriff.
