He was born on January 25, 1949 to the late William and Ruth Caldwell. Danny was a construction worker for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting.

John Paul Richards went to his heavenly home Sunday, November 19, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on November 9, 1936, to Paul Albert and Versel Louise Richards (Ridenour). He was a graduate of Peru High School and joined the Indiana National Guard October 2, 1958, and later transferred to US Army Reserve October 2, 1963. He married his devoted wife, Carolyn (Powell), at Macy United Methodist Church on May 19, 1957.

Gertrude A. “Gertie” Hiers, 87, Mexico, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, November 20, 2017, at her residence.

Born August 1, 1930, in Mexico, Indiana, she was the daughter of Henry and Edna Miller Swayer. On April 17, 1949, at the Mexico Church of the Brethren, she was married to Melvin Hiers, and he survives.

Franklin (Frank) Robert Jeffers, 65, of Peru was called home by his Heavenly Father on November 18, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on February 5, 1952, in Peru to Floyd & Dorothy (Russell) Jeffers. He married Kitty Latta on February 9, 1974. Frank retired from Miami Correctional Facility in 2015. He enjoyed playing the guitar and did so for many years at the church. He loved the outdoors, fishing and shooting his guns, he was always tinkering with his motorcycle, cars, and anything to keep him busy. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He never knew a stranger and was loved by many.

Nancy L. DaWalt, 78, of Peru, IN passed away at 9:10 AM, Monday, November 20, 2017, at her residence. She was born in Peru on December 24, 1938, the daughter of Harry and Ruth Lane Dixon. Nancy married Jay DaWalt at the Main Street United Methodist Church in Peru on March 16, 1962, and he preceded her in death on February 15, 1995.

Nancy was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church and a 1957 graduate of Peru High School. She was a Teacher’s Aide for 19 years at Bunker Hill Elementary School and Pike Creek Elementary School. She was a member of the Elkettes, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Nancy was always quick with a smile, loved to hug and offered words of gentle guidance to many throughout her lifetime. She had a sharp wit and arsenal of funny sayings. She was a warm, kind-hearted generous woman who exemplified integrity.

Norma E. Hyde, 95, of Peru passed away at 2:10 Am, Sunday. November 19, 2017, at the Blair Ridge Health Campus. She was born in Tipton, IN on October 9, 1922, the daughter of Ernest and Emma Rydell Pavey. Norma married Norman F. Hyde at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru on December 10, 1946, and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1999.

Norma was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and a homemaker. She and her daughter Sandy owned and operated Sandy’s Café on North Broadway in Peru from 1974-1984. Norma enjoyed painting and was a wonderful cook. Thoughtful and nurturing, she was a good, generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

JoAnn (Gore, Burkeybyle) Phillips passed away at Blair Ridge Health Campus on Sunday, 11/19. She had been in declining health after suffering a heart attack in August. JoAnn was born November 12, 1934, in Edgar County, Illinois, to Emory Eli Gore and Beulah Marie (Ridgway).

She is survived by daughters Janie (John) Fish, Purcellville VA; Navi (Joe) Vernon, Peru IN; and, Elesa (Mike) McCann, Noblesville IN. Grandchildren: Charity (Jeff) Bohn, Ankeny IA; Amy (Jason) Deitrich, Battle Ground IN; Sheena (Sean) Kuyper, Rossville IN; Emily (Casey) Kight, Purcellville VA; Eric (Kathryn) Fish, Raleigh NC; Samantha Vernon, Portland OR; Matt Vernon, Ft. Wayne IN, Katie McCann, Lafayette IN; and, Patrick McCann, Noblesville IN. Great-grandchildren: Cinnamon Roe, Ava and Lucy Deitrich, Kelly Ann and Porter Kight, Will and Emma Kuyper, and Tinsley Jane Fish. Plus, several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Debra Kay Miller Cornelison, 51, Perrysburg, passed away at 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru.

Born September 2, 1966, in Logansport, Indiana, she was the daughter of Larry G. and Sonja K. Opple Miller. On September 22, 2003, in Peru, Indiana, she was married to Claude Russell Cornelison, Jr., and he survives.

Debra was a 1985 graduate of North Miami High School. She enjoyed crafts and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter. She was a lover of cats and loved her feline companion, Polka Dot.
