Indiana- On January 4, 2010, President Obama issued a proclamation naming January as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. This followed a 2007 Senate resolution naming January 11th as Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers (CVEOs) and Motor Carrier Inspectors (MCIs) are teaming up with officers from neighboring states to raise awareness of human trafficking.

Peru – This morning at approximately 4:58 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Peru Police Department, and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at Business 31, in which a Peru, IN man died.

A preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Dustin Rutledge revealed that Celena Borders, 41, Seymour, IN was driving a 2014 Freightliner semi-tractor, pulling a box trailer, northbound on U.S. 31 approaching a red stoplight at Business 31. The semi-tractor failed to stop for the red light and t-boned a 2005 Dodge pickup truck driven by Gregory Monin, 49, Peru, IN. The Dodge had the right away and was in the intersection, on Business 31, attempting a southbound turn.

Peru, Indiana - Wednesday starting at 5:00 p.m. until Thursday at 3:30 a.m., troopers working from the Indiana State Police Peru Post conducted a saturation patrol targeting aggressive and impaired drivers in Miami, Wabash, Cass, Fulton, Grant, and Howard Counties. During the 10.5 hour period, officers concentrated their enforcement efforts on the heavily traveled roads of I-69, U.S. 31, State Road 37, and U.S.24. Troopers were able to remove three impaired drivers from Indiana roads before they potentially crashed and caused injuries to themselves or other motorists.

Miami County – Last night at approximately 3:33 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Peru Police Department, and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash at U.S. 24 and State Road 19, in which four people were injured.

Miami County – Last night at approximately 9:56 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at Cassville Road, in which a Kokomo, IN teen died.

Indianapolis – Thursday, a ceremony was held at the Indiana State Library to honor Indiana State Police Chaplain Reverend John A. “Jack” Hess for receiving the 2017 John “Jack” Price Excellence in Chaplaincy Award. The award is given annually by the International Conference of Police Chaplains (ICPC) for a lifetime of achievement and excellence of service in law enforcement chaplaincy. Hess was presented the award earlier this year at the ICPC’s annual seminar in Norfolk, VI.

Wabash County – Recently, a criminal investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Josh Maller resulted in the arrest of Donnie Horne, 38, rural Huntington, IN. Horne was arrested on a felony charge of possession of stolen property.

Peru, IN – An ISP Trooper initiated a traffic stop on Wednesday morning that would result in the arrest of the driver and four other people on several drug charges.

On Wednesday morning at approximately 6:23 a.m., ISP Trooper Steve Glass was patrolling US Route 24 near Paw Paw Pike when he pulled over a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville for driving left of center. While Trooper Glass was talking with the driver, a Steven Blue, 57, of 2492 S. Ferguson Rd, Warsaw, he observed signs that Mr. Blue appeared to be intoxicated.
