Presented By: Veterans for Foreign Wars Post 2067, Miami County Honor Guard, and Miami County Service Office.
At the Courthouse Square, citizens of Peru, and Miami County gathered to honor the heroes who have served this country and preserved our freedom. At dawn, the flags were lowered to half-mast in preparation for today's event. Mr. Gary Working and Miss Hailey Ewer sang patriotic songs. The organizer and keynote speaker, Jay Kendall shared with us a story of service that exemplifies why we should honor and remember America's Fallen.
Captain Martin Valadez USAF, 434 AW/OSS honored us with his presence and speech about ultimate sacrifice and the loyalty that is within those who serve this country. Guest Speaker Miles Hewitt was the last to speak today, and he spoke of the sacrifice of not only the heroes, but of their families. Overcome with emotion, Mr. Hewitt talked of being humbled and honored of being asked to participate in this year's Memorial Day Ceremony of remembrances.
Finally, Jay Kendall, Miami County Veteran Service Officer, Presented a Wreath Laying by the V.F.W. Post 2067 Ladies Auxiliary. Then a Gun Salute by the Miami County Honor Guard with Taps presented by Bugler which brought this ceremony to a close.
