Denver, IN – Officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department served a search warrant on a residence in the 60 block of East Harrison Street in Denver on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, that resulted in the arrest of two men on multiple charges.
The warrant was obtained from Miami County Judge Timothy P. Spahr of the Miami County Circuit Court at approximately 9:05 a.m. on April 27, 2019.
On May 1, 2019, at approximately 8:45 a.m., ISP Sgt. TJ Zeiser, Trooper Dustin Rutledge, Trooper Jon Cole, ISP K9 Trooper Caleb Clark, Trooper Jessy Reason, Tropper Steven Glass along with Miami County Deputy Stephanie Coppler went to the residence in Denver to execute the search warrant.
During a search of the residence, methamphetamine, marijuana, and paraphernalia were located in the first bedroom of the residence. This bedroom was an infant’s room that also was identified as belonging to Garett Sampson, 20 of Denver. The infant was found inside this room in its crib.
A further search of the residence would locate more marijuana underneath a mattress on the first story of the south side of the residence. This room was later identified as belonging to Joshua D. Stone, 41 of Denver.
Two juveniles were also identified as living in this residence however they were not present at the time of the search warrant.
A female subject was also present in the residence at the time of the search warrant. Her name was redacted from the report by the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office.
All subjects were read their rights and stated they understood. Department of Child Services caseworkers were also contacted and arrived on scene to assist.
Sergeant Zeiser interviewed Mr. Stone on the scene. He stated the marijuana found in the bedroom was his.
Zeiser also interviewed Mr. Sampson on the scene who admitted to the paraphernalia and stated it was located inside a safe in his bedroom.
The evidence was collected and photographed. The suspected methamphetamine and marijuana will be sent to the ISP Regional Laboratory.
Mr. Stone and Mr. Sampson were then transported to the Indiana State Police Post for additional interviews.
Mr. Stone stated that the marijuana was his and that he smoked marijuana for a long time. Mr. Stone agreed that his house was not a safe place for his children due to drug use.
Mr. Sampson was then interviewed. He reported that he had used methamphetamine approximately two days ago with his fiancé. He stated the methamphetamine, Paraphernalia, and Marijuana belonged to him. He further stated that he is the one that purchases the meth. He stated that he was purchasing the meth weekly (1/2 gram for $40).
Garrett Sampson, 20, of Denver faces charges of Neglect of Dependent, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Paraphernalia, Possession of Methamphetamine and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
Joshua Stone, 41, of Denver faces charges of Neglect of a Dependent, and Possession of Marijuana.
All criminal suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
