Peru, IN – The Peru Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, in the City Council Chambers of the Peru City Building.
During this meeting, the Board of Works approved a Police escort from Miami’s Fort to Broadway to 24 East to 19 N. at 12 Noon on April 20, 2019, for a Cancer Ride. Thomas Hiles is conducting the benefit for Thomas Kelsor, Jr. who has Liver and Lung Cancer. The event will include a motorcycle ride, live DJ, Silent Auction and Raffles. There will also be a free will donation lunch of Pulled Pork, BBQ, Chicken, Pork Butt, Baked Beans, Salads and Desserts.
In other business, the Board of Works:
• Approved the payment of $121,451.88 in regular claims against the city.
• Discussed placement of speed limit sign in the 500 block of Canal Street at the request of Kegan Kern. This request led to a discussion of the speed limit on Canal which is currently 30 miles per hours. The Board discussed lowering the speed limit to 25. The Board tabled the discussion of the speed limit sign and the reduction of speed on Canal Street until the next meeting of the Board of Works.
With no additional business, the board approved a motion to adjourn. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Peru Board of Public Works and Safety will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at City Hall beginning at 5:00 p.m.
About the Board of Works:
The Board of Works consists of the Mayor and two members appointed by the Mayor. The Clerk-Treasurer is the Secretary of the Board. Authority includes control of street & sanitation as well as traffic. The Board’s function also includes control of law enforcement and fire safety, although the mayor appoints the police chief, fire chief, and city engineer to handle day to day responsibilities for their respective departments. Appointed members serve a four-year term.
