Peru, IN – Peru Police officers were called to a residence in the 500 block of Jackson Ave. for a disorderly male subject who was possibly on drugs on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 10:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, PPD Officer Chad Mooney spoke with the caller who reported that Ethan Bowman, 20 of Peru, was inside the residence and was “freaking out”. Officer Mooney went inside the residence to speak with Ethan who was pacing back and forth inside a bedroom.
When asked what he was doing, Ethan replied “nothing”. Officer Mooney noted that Ethan’s eyes were “wide, and his pupils were extremely dilated.” He also noted that Ethan spoke quickly and was not clear when answering questions going off topic and saying that he shouldn’t be talking with Officer Mooney.
Ethan also had his hand stuck in his left coat pocket. When asked to remove his hand, Ethan would comply but then would return his hand to the coat pocket after a few seconds.
For his safety, Officer Mooney asked Ethan if he could search him for weapons and Ethan agreed. This search resulted in the location of a glass or hard plastic pill contained sized jar containing a green plant-like material that later would test positive for marijuana.
Officer Westfall arrived on scene to assist and was directed by the caller to some clothing Ethan was wearing when he came to the residence. Westfall then located a plastic baggie that contained a white crystal rock-like substance that would later test positive for methamphetamine with the clothing. Ethan was asked if the clothing was his and he reported that it was.
Officer Mooney then placed Ethan in handcuffs, and he was escorted out of the residence to a police car for transport to the Miami County Jail.
While walking to the car, Ethan kept saying “they” set him up. Referring to the people he was hanging out with earlier in the day but he would not tell officers who “they” were.
When asked of he had anything else illegal on his person, Ethan said that he had a “meth pipe” in his waistband. This pipe was located. It was coated on the inside with a white cloudy substance. Also, a Swisher Sweet cigar pack was located in his coat that emitted the odor of marijuana but there was none inside.
Ethan Bowman, 20, homeless, faces charges of Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Paraphernalia.
All criminal suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
