My Weirdness and My Wish

It’s Christmas!

One of the things I do this time of year is listen to podcasts about Christmas. I was listening to Weird Christmas recently. It was a special episode in which four Christmas podcasters talked about the legend of the Christmas pickle. (Whether you are familiar with the Christmas pickle or not, you probably don’t know the truth about the Christmas pickle.) Listening to this podcast got me thinking about the weird things on my tree. There are many. But the weirdest is probably the Santa toilet paper. Yes, toilet paper.

The Furry Guy bought a box of Christmas stuff at an auction for $1. In that box was a brand-new roll of Santa toilet paper. We chuckled about it. We discussed what to do with it. We weren’t going to use it. We didn’t know anyone at that time who might find it as funny as we did. So, we decided to nestle the roll among the branches of our Christmas tree.

Under the tree we have a set of my friend’s sinus x-rays. She brought them, along with some cookies, to a white elephant exchange and was thrilled that I’d gotten them. She said she figured if anyone could find a use for them, it would be me. I told her I did have a use for them. I now had proof she had no brain. This is the same friend from the “O Tree Carcass” column. I have a lot of great stories that include her.

My guess is that, like us, your celebrations have already started, and you’ve got more coming up in the next week or two. Celebrations include friends and family—some you enjoy the time with and some you don’t.

It’s a time of food—lots of good food. Whether you’re drawn to the savory stuff, the sweet stuff, or all the stuff. Meals. Food gifts. Traditional foods. New foods. Food is everywhere.

My wish for you this holiday season is that you’ll enjoy every moment. Enjoy the people, the food, and the reason for your celebration. And if the holidays are difficult for you, my wish is peace and comfort.

May your week ahead be filled with sunshine.
