Peru, IN – Ole Olsen Memorial Theatre is inviting you to take a “trip” back to the 80’s and enjoy the comedy “Five Women Wearing The Same Dress”. This play was written by Allen Ball who is famous for writing the movie “American Beauty”.
The production is being directed by Debby Myers, a twenty-three-year veteran of the Ole Olsen Stage. Debby is currently a member of the Ole Olsen Board of Directors as the Publicity and Marketing Chairperson.
This play centers around five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids attending a wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee estate. Each of the bridesmaids attempts to escape the reception by going upstairs to the bride’s sister’s bedroom. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent, and touching celebration of the women’s spirit.
“They (the characters in the play) talk about a lot of things that they go through as women back in the 80’s when this was set,” according to Myers. “It’s a little racy in some ways because it covers topics like the AIDS scare, drug and alcohol abuse, infidelity and homophobia. There is a lesbian in the show and also there is a section where you find out about someone who has been molested as a child.”
“Although it sounds like a drag, a big drama, sad and all that, it’s absolutely hilarious. It’s a really really funny show,” added Myers.
